BURN. Black University Radio Network Countdown to CIAA 100th Anniversary

After ninety-nine years in the game, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) embark upon a historical and monumental birthday.  2011 marks the 100th Anniversary  of the oldest African American Athletic Conference in the United States of America.

Born out of necessity in 1912 as the Colored Intercollegiate Athletic Association it was the only athletic association that welcomed African American Athletics during the time of segregation and Jim Crow Law in the United States.  
The CIAA consist of historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) spanning the east coast of Pennsylvania to North Carolina.

In addition too its outstanding basketball history, the CIAA pioneered the divisional conference football championship game format in 1970.

Alumni include,  Ben Wallace (Detroit Pistons), Charles Oakley (Chicago Bulls, NY N\Knicks)  Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, Reginald Lewis (Beatrice Foods), Art Shell (NFL Head Coach).

The 2011 CIAA is taking place Feb. 28th through March 5, 2011 in Queen City, Charlotte North Carolina.
